CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 will makes its debut January 2, 2019 with Kelly Thompson on board as the writer and art by Carmen Carnero, with color by Tamra Bonvillain. Also revealed in the announcement was the powerful cover for the first issue by Amanda Conner!
CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 will bring Danvers back to New York City where she will face new threats and obstacles. According to the New York Times, “[t]he series will reconnect Captain Marvel with allies like Iron Man and her best friend Spider-Woman, as well as offer new relationships.”
I’m excited to hear this but hardly surprised Marvel has another Captain Marvel book in the pipeline what with the movie coming out next year.
While I’ve enjoyed what little I’ve read of the currently available Life of Captain Marvel book, I would like to read a series that features more of Danvers’ Earthly adventures and shows how she interacts with the rest of the Marvel U, which this book will be covering.
Kelly Thompson’s work on West Coast Avengers and Hawkeye is great and while I’m not super familiar with her work, Carmen Carnero’s art looks excellent. I really hope Amanda Conner sticks around on covers, she’s one of my favorite artists since her work on Power Girl at DC years ago.
