The almost complete lack of attention paid to this story exemplifies the niche status of Google’s Pixel phones — which is sad, considering that they’re indisputably among the best Android phones.
It’s not entirely fair to say that nobody cared about this news. For clarity, the title of Gruber’s post is “Lyft Driver Finds Pixel 3 XL in Car; No One Cares”. Another point is that — in the original post on Circuit Breaker — they mention the fact that the driver of the Lyft knew exactly what device this was given how much had been leaked about it. That says something about it’s popularity as well.
After all the leaks the new device has suffered, it’s not surprising that people aren’t overly floored by news of one landing in the backseat of a car. It would be a completely different story if this was our first look at the device in the wild.
